    Reliquary of Dusk is the 4th album (second on IT) from Dunedin/Melbourne
    experimental darkwave duo Ov Pain (Tim Player/ Renee Barrance).

    Ov Pain are a band that explore, each new album sees them treading a new path. From the cold wave, post-punk of their debut self-titled album (2017), through heavier territory in the gothic drone on The Churning of Blue Noon (2021). This new album expands on the minimal rhythmic soundscapes of Kauri Island (2022), to weave and fold new colours into the Ov Pain tapestry.

    Reliquary of Dusk is a fully electronic production. Layered synth drones bleed across minimal beats while interlocking, slow-building melodies slither, simmer and percolate around each other. Barrances vocals float above ethereal and deceptively beautiful, a false lullaby describing terrible truths and existential dread.

    Ov Pain wonder if we are living now, through a “Dusk”, sun sinking with a long darkness fast approaching. Something to ponder as you listen to this wonderful album
    * Did you know IT Records is a local indie label run by one of our staff? Long-time Dixons employee Kate Reid runs the label when she's not in the shop selling records for us. Here is a little bit about the label:

    It Records is a niche independent label out of Melbourne Australia, with a unique roster that includes electronic, rock, pop and experimental artists, drawn from diverse genres with a “dark” bent (eg. Post- punk, darkwave, Leftfield, Psych Rock, neofolk, industrial, and synth-wave). Founded in 2014 the label is very much centred in the Melbourne underground scene, the label includes work from emerging artists as well as established and influential musicians. Drawing a parallel between what these artists are doing now and the influence of the music that has come out of the Melbourne and Australian underground in the past.
